Finally I landed a new job in a web-portal firm. While applying I described my self as an SEO expert. My designation is junior online operation assistant. The area I mainly deal in is SEM and monitoring & developing brand (or you can say building brand). I have been given an E-commerce site with spending limit of $200 for paid advertising. Experience of 1.2 years optimizing a site was enough to be confident. But, things that really amazed me were building brand, funded amount for paid advertising and customer care support. I did not know I would have to manage such tasks. In this post I would like to talk about SEO & SEM and its important aspects.

You may have heard marketing Gurus talking about generating traffic, sending out news letters, Email marketing, generating leads etc in order to develop an online business. Its not that much only. There are lot more tnhings a person need to know for successful online business. SEO is about developing a site so that it rank higher in search engines. It includes website structure, organization of data (content), link building, link structure, Website layout (design), Fresh information. Those are important things in SEO. Thats not suffice for a good business. You need to know SEM. SEM is an integrated process of all of that. Its all about effective marketing, Branding, SEO, social networking, podcast, Good service and customer care. If you are running any e-commerce site you might have done all those things (Sometimes without even aware of doing that). It was only When I was listing mentioned SEM aspects, I realized that even I was doing that for last 1.2 years and I didn’t know that.

Marketing should not be just marketing it has to be effective marketing. A product with useful features in real sense will cut almost half of your marketing effort. In my case we provide service of really good quality hence YouTube, Articles writing, involvement in forums, podcasts and press releases are the prime areas I am focused on. Digg and StumbleUpon has proven very effective to convey the message in very short span of time to mass.

Social Networking: I tell you, its very difficult to develop your business unless you get your business socially involved. Just make them aware that you are associated with so and so product or service. Track my words. I am telling to ‘make them aware‘ not to recommend. Social networking services like MySpace, FaceBook, MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog are the place where you can deploy your task. It is very good place to make new like minded friends.
