Its apparent you start getting new rivals (or foes!) when you are leader and making more money than the giant whose been already there for years. But, it is really matter of consideration when your own pals get ready to compete you. Former Google employers Anna Patterson and Russell Power have launched new search engine, called Cuil (Pronunciation = cool). Founders of it thinks cuil is capable to compete other search engines because of its web page crawling ability.
Cuil have crawled 120 Billions web documents and it is the largest, as claimed by Mr. Costello, database than any other search engine. Google would not fear by that massive figure as far as Google and its most prominent motto about search result is concerned. Its All About Quality, Not Quantity. Cuil has couple of good features. It shows more text (almost a para) for the description of the site in search result instead of description of limited characters, which is good from SEO point of view. Cuil also crawl particular image of the site. Really a good attempt but not suffice, of course.
As it was developed by former Googlers I took some time to check it out. Almost half an hour I tested out this SE. Layout is really good, specially extra links on right hand side of web2.0 effect. Precision ratio is quite low as compare to all the search egines.
Changing layout and largest crawled webpage database can not turn the flow of people from Yahoo or Google. Little bit different can not assure beating the giant. It takes the whole new idea to sneak in and win the race. They have succeeded to gather data, now next step will be to arrange them taking numbers of factors into consideration.
